On June 18, John Reichard of CQ HealthBeat—Washington’s premier source for health policy news—ran a story on the SCOTUS health reform ruling, and its potential impact on public health. An oft overlooked effect of the decision: if the Supreme Court strikes down the Affordable Care Act in its entirety, it would take with it the Prevention and Public Health Fund. Since enacted in 2010, the Fund has largely been used to supplant funding at a number of public health agencies like CDC, HRSA, SAMHSA and AHRQ. The article included extensive quotes from Emily Holubowich, a Senior Vice President at CRD Associates who represents a number of health-related clients, including the Coalition for Health Funding. Emily is a recognized and sought out expert on public health funding.
