Members of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society were concerned that an outdated National Coverage Determination (NCD) that was limiting patient access to medically necessary ambulatory electroencephalograms (EEGs). With CRD Associates assistance, they developed an evidence-based rationale for the policy’s removal. Representatives of ACNS met with CMS’ Coverage and Analysis Group (CAG) several times and submitted requests for removal both individually and with a coalition of interested organizations requesting the NCD be removed. CMS finalized the removal of the NCD in the Calendar Year (CY) 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule.
