CRD Associates is proud to lead advocacy efforts to effect policy changes that help individuals in direct and personal ways. Sometimes drawing attention to important issues is made easier when celebrities and other prominent individuals join the cause!
This week, the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) and Perelel Health were joined by award-winning actresses Mandy Moore and Lupita Nyong’o for a roundtable on Capitol Hill, covered exclusively by ABC News, focused on correcting the vast underfunding of women’s health research. In my capacity as Board Chair of SWHR, I joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers, researchers, and advocates who heard Moore and Nyong’o detail their own personal journeys and urge lawmakers to increase investment in women’s health research. The lawmakers in the room also shared their and their loved ones’ health care journeys and expressed their commitment to closing the women’s health research gap.

Less than 9 percent of NIH dollars are designated for women’s health research, a fact that has very real consequences. Cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in women; 80 percent of autoimmune patients are women; 70% of women develop uterine fibroids in their reproductive years; and endometrial cancer is one of the few cancers with an increasing incidence and mortality rate. Improving the health of women is more than just improving the life of individuals – it improves the health of American families and our economy.
Closing the women’s health research gap will take a dedicated effort among advocates and allied lawmakers that will start with increasing funding for federal women’s health research. CRD Associates is proud to play a part in leading that effort. #fundwomenshealth
