Legislative, Regulatory and Other Accomplishments...
- Modified New Markets Tax Credits regulations to ensure fairer treatment of rural areas.
- Developed a new congressional tax credit proposal to attract investment in biotechnology, bio-pharmaceuticals and renewable energy commercial activity.
- Created a strategic plan for implementing and funding a state-based pilot study to identify and test best practices for increasing patient safety and medical errors.
- Convinced Congress to pilot test a corporate client's data exchange program, as a means of validating information collected in welfare-to-work and child support enforcement programs administered by the Administration for Children and Families.
- Negotiated an agreement between a division in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a client to develop a device useful in the detection of certain infectious diseases.
- Worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to improve and expedite the process by which specific health care facilities become eligible for reimbursement.
- Secured a GAO study to examine the impact of kidney transplant failures on the federal health care system.
- Aided clients in their understanding of the development, endorsement, and implementation processes behind physician quality measures, leading to the successful adoption and use of new quality measures in the Medicare quality reporting program.
- Coordinated advocacy campaigns for large and small medical specialty societies to prevent Medicare physician payment cuts.
- Assisted in the creation of a public/private partnership to implement a new disease-specific newborn screening test.
- Reversed a proposed Medicare national coverage determination (NCD) on the use of anemia drugs for a rare disease.
- Designed and conducted advocacy training sessions for clients' membership to strengthen their impact on Capitol Hill and in the Executive Branch.
